  Please read the eight outcomes of high quality service coordination and then answer the questions below. The Research and Training Center on Service Coordination is a national initiative to examine the status of service coordination for children with disabilities and their families receiving early intervention services under Part C of IDEA. This project's research yielded a list of eight outcomes of high quality service coordination:

  1. Families make informed decisions about resources and supports in the community for their children.
  2. Families acquire or maintain a quality of life that enhances their well-being.
  3. Families have the tools, knowledge and support to access resources.
  4. Families are knowledgeable about their child's unique needs.
  5. Children's development is enhanced.
  6. Children are safe and healthy.
  7. Children have successful transitions.
  8. Children and families receive early intervention services that are individualized, coordinated, and effective.

Think about your role in the early intervention field and the eight outcomes of high quality service coordination. Ask yourself the following questions and jot down your responses for your records:
  1. Do these outcomes apply only to high quality service coordination or are they outcomes that children and families value and are the responsibility of all early intervention providers?
  2. What can I do in my involvement with children and families to assist in attaining these outcomes?
