Does your program have a trained breastfeeding counselor? We recommend that every program have at least one home visitor trained in breastfeeding counseling. This 3-day training is designed for those who wish to learn the basics of teaching breastfeeding and use strategies to increase breastfeeding rates. This course is based on the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative, with content geared toward community-based providers. The course meets the standards of USBC Core Competencies in Breastfeeding Care and Services, WHO/UNICEF, and Florida Healthy Start training requirements. You must attend all three days to receive the Breastfeeding Counselor certificate. Please bring a computer or tablet for the 3rd day.
The first 1000 days is the most critical time for establishing a strong foundation of infant mental health. Home visitors can be pivotal in promoting infant mental health for families with young children. This half day training provides key concepts of attachment, trauma, and infant mental health; reviews the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on child development and brain development; and outlines a trauma-informed, infant mental health approach for home visitors to use to best meet the needs of infant, toddlers and families.
Adversity is common. We can't stop bad things from happening, but we can strengthen our resiliency to overcome adversity. This half day motivational training brings to life the book, Finding the Gold: Overcoming Adversity to Create A Happy Life, based on the science of resiliency. The training provides fresh insights to awaken our best selves and illuminate the "gold within" to thrive in the face of life's challenges. Hope you'll join us for this inspirational, fun journey!
Learn how to support your families and achieve program goals using the newly updated, research-based Partners for a Healthy Baby digital curriculum. In this training participants will learn how to use the digital curriculum to fidelity in order to plan effective home visits. During this 2-day interactive training participants will become familiar with content in the Partners curriculum they can use to promote healthy birth outcomes; support parenting skills that promote optimal bonding, attachment, and responsive caregiving; teach parents ways to facilitate their child's development; and more easily address topics that may be difficult to discuss.
Presented by FSU's Dr. Anne E. Hogan, Development in a Day provides an overview of infant and toddler development. After opening with a summary of Key Developmental Theories and Concepts, she will survey the major domains of development. Topics will include motor development, problem solving and cognitive development, social competence and self-regulation, and language development. Along the way she will encourage the group to consider current applications and concerns, such as effects of technology on development, dual language learning, and how developmental concepts can support provider-parent relationships.
